Two former Mingo County officials convicted of federal charges could lose their public employee pensions.
A state law requires the Consolidated Public Retirement Board to withhold payment or contributions for any elected official found guilty of a crime.
Board attorney Jeaneen Legato told the Charleston Gazette that she plans to ask the board to disqualify former Circuit Judge Michael Thornsbury and former County Commissioner David Baisden from receiving pensions.
Thornsbury pleaded guilty last week to charges that he, Baisden and other officials conspired to protect the reputation of the late Sheriff Eugene Crum by jailing a man who sold Crum drugs.
Baisden pleaded guilty last week to an unrelated extortion charge.
Legato said the retirement board would meet in January to discuss the men's pensions.
