Goldtown , Jackson County , West Virginia
A Cross Lanes woman was charged with child neglect creating the risk of injury after a Jackson County deputy said she crashed a vehicle while driving under the influence of alcohol and had two children as passengers.
Ashley Ann Croushorn, 19, was charged an accident that occurred Friday on Interstate 77 near the Goldtown exit, according to a criminal complaint filed in Jackson County Magistrate Court.
When a deputy responded to the crash, the officer said he found a station wagon on its top in the middle of the roadway. The officer said Croushorn said she began driving because her boyfriend, a passenger in the vehicle, got into a heated argument.
Croushorn showed the signs of drinking alcohol, and she told the officer she had a couple of beers, the complaint said. She failed several of the field sobriety tests and a preliminary blood alcohol test showed she had a reading of .098, the complaint said.
Croushorn’s boyfriend, Trace Wheeler, was flown to Charleston Area Medical Center General Hospital with life-threatening injuries. The driver said her 5-year-old son and 12-year-old niece also were passengers in the vehicle. Her son was transported to CAMC General with minor injuries, and her niece was transported from the scene by her father with minor injuries.
