A family is without a mother after a devastating accident in St. Albans Thursday night.
Angie Oxley was hit while walking along U.S. Route 60. Her two daughters were with her.
Friday night, they spoke out about their mom and about what went terribly wrong the night before.
“It’s hard,” Jeff Paul said. “She's gonna miss her daughters. That worry is on my mind.”
The family was turned upside down in an instant Thursday night, at about 8 p.m., as Angie Oxley was walking along U.S. 60 in St. Albans near Arborland Acres.
She was with her two daughters, on their way to get their mom’s paycheck from Gino's in St. Albans, and then to pick up dinner for the rest of their family. They were walking, because they did not have a car.
But before they made it there, tragedy struck.
Makayla Paul, 16, was pulling her little sister in a wagon, their mom walking by their side, when she was struck by a Ford F-150.
“I had my little sister, Cheyenne, she's four,” Makayla Paul said. “I heard a big boom. I went to look for my mom and she wasn't there.”
Their mother was killed, but somehow the two sisters escaped unharmed.
The family is holding on to what they have left and wanting to tell their story. They believe the driver should be charged.
But, for now, they are just trying to cope with their loss and lean on one another.
An immediate challenge facing the family is funeral expenses. They said they don't have the money to bury Oxley.
Right now, they are trying to work out all of those details.
As for the crash, State Police are investigating. So far, the driver has not been charged, but police said they are awaiting blood test results to make the final determination.
