A major safety upgrade is being planned for nearly 30 miles of road in Greenup County, Kentucky.
State Representative Tanya Pullin announced that 29 miles of U.S. 23 will be upgraded from the Ohio state line to the Greenup-Boyd County line. The project includes paving, widening shoulders, adding turn lanes, wider exit and entrance pads and acceleration lanes. At 20 intersections, additional or extended turn lanes will also be added.
Pullin said this is the biggest safety upgrade of U.S. 23 in Greenup County since the four-lane was built 40 years ago. Construction should begin immediately and is expected to last for about two months.
