Lakewood , Kanawha County , West Virginia
Several small Kanawha County communities are mourning the loss of a beloved teenager. Ethan Glenn, 19, was killed in a car accident Monday night in the Lakewood area near St. Albans.
Ethan was working a full-time job and had plans of attending college. But with his whole life ahead of him, Ethan died behind the wheel of his car, with his best friend in the passenger's seat. As you can imagine, those who were close to Glenn are heartbroken.
Amy Bautista knew Ethan from the time he was in kindergarten and became best friends with her nephew, Donovan Goodwin. As Ethan got older, he also got close with Bautista's daughter Alexis. To Amy and Alexis, Ethan was like family.
"I loved him to death. He was one of the most respectful teenagers that comes around," Bautista said.
"He was like my big brother though. Anytime i needed someone to talk to, he was the first person there," Alexis Pickens said.
The mother and daughter are grateful their relative Donovan Goodwin, who was riding in the car with Ethan, survived Monday night's crash in the Lakewood area, but their hearts break that Ethan did not make it. They remember him as a kind, fun-loving young man who was mature behind his years. He loved sports and staying in shape.
"He was a good guy," Pickens said.
"He really was," Bautista said.
Pickens said he was an "amazing person."
"There was no negative thing that came out of his mouth. He was always positive," Pickens said.
Ethan's sudden death reminds them both to cherish every day.
"That's how quick it can happen. You never leave with a bad word spoken because in the blink of an eye, someone can be gone," Bautista said.
And they're just thankful for the time they did get to spend with Ethan.
"He had his life ready and set, but i guess God just wanted him to come home," said Pickens.
Ethan Glenn was wearing his seat belt when the accident happened. The Kanawha County Sheriff's Office is still awaiting toxicology tests.
Funeral arrangements for Ethan are pending.
The name of the person killed in a single vehicle accident Monday near St. Albans has been released.
Ethan Charles Glenn, 19, of Tornado died as a result of injuries received in the crash, Cpl. Brian Humphreys of the Kanawha County Sheriff's Office said.
The accident happened along Bellewood Drive in the Lakewood area about 8:20 p.m. Monday.
Donovan Goodwin, 19, was a passenger in the vehicle and received minor or no injuries, Humphreys said. Goodwin was able to free himself from the wreckage.
Glenn was driving the black Toyota Avalon along Bellewood Drive when the vehicle apparently struck a metal storm water pass-through, became airborne and landed on its roof before coming to a stop in the ditch. Glenn died at the scene of the accident, before first responders arrived.
