Now that the uninsured can start enrolling in the Affordable Care Act effective Tuesday, health insurance is the topic of conversation for Jack Summerfield and others who are uninsured.
The Affordable Care Act and its complexities have Summerfield asking questions.
"Am I going to be equal to everyone else? Is it going to be like Canada and it doesn't matter if you're rich or poor, you'll get the same treatment?" Summerfield asked.
Independent insurance broker Joel Thompson said quality of treatment can only improve.
"There are no concerns with the quality of health care, if anything, the law has provisions that will make quality better in many different ways," Thompson said.
Itisha Moore is a college student who is uninsured.
"Where do you go to sign up?" Moore asked. "Who do you talk to about it?"
Thompson said there are many paths to help people sign up.
"Many social service agencies will have the ability to sign people up, and many online sources will have links to the marketplace as well," Thompson said.
The uninsured can sign up with a company, but the company you choose depends where you live in our region. In West Virginia, the insurance provider is High Mark Blue Cross Blue Shield. In Kentucky, there is KY Health Cooperative and Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield. In Ohio, there is Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, Medical Mutual of Ohio and Humana.
Anyone who wonders how much insurance will cost, there is a website to visit this website.
Plug in your income level and it should tell you how much health insurance will cost under the Affordable Care Act.
