West Virginia higher education officials are considering a proposed rule that addresses emergency procedures, communication and other campus safety issues.
The rule establishes guidelines and procedures for four-year schools to follow when planning and responding to campus emergencies.
It requires all schools to have a plan in place to deal with natural disasters, shooting incidents, infectious disease outbreaks and other campus emergencies.
The West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission is expected to vote on the rule during a special meeting on Friday. If approved, the rule would be submitted to the Secretary of State's Office for a 30-day public comment period.
