Willie Jenkins’s twin brother, Wilbur, died suddenly last week.
"I've lost a mother, a father, a sister," Willie said. "but when you lose a brother, you don't really know until you do."
On Saturday, Wilbur was honored with a memorial service. One which dozens from the community attended to remember the well loved man.
"I thought I was more popular than him growing up," Willie said. "but obviously as you can see I don't think I was that popular."
Wilbur was quite a figure in the sports community.
He was everything from a sports writer, to a basketball coach, to an umpire for several baseball and softball leagues. Wherever you could find local sports, you often found Wilbur with his contagious smile and funny personality.
Wilbur left behind several stories with friends and family, some which were shared at the memorial service. Willie said it is through those stories the pain eases.
"The outpouring of love from the community," Wilma Gaines Holder, Wilbur's sister, said. "it's just been phenomenal. It's just outstanding."
Wilbur died from a heart attack. He was 48 years old.
