Morgantown, Monongalia County , West Virginia
A fundraising effort has begun for a statue of basketball great Rod "Hot Rod" Hundley outside the West Virginia University Coliseum.
Hundley's family and friends have started the campaign with the goal of $300,000 to complete the statue's design and installation process.
The university said the statue would be made by Morgantown artist Jamie Lester and feature Hundley attempting a hook shot, one of his signature moves.
Tax-deductible contributions for the project can be made to the WVU Foundation.
Hundley averaged 24.5 points and 10.6 rebounds over his college career with the Mountaineers from 1954-57. He still holds the single-game school record of 54 points and is second on WVU's career scoring list behind Jerry West.
Hundley's No. 33 jersey number was retired by the school in 2010.
