Some people at the West Virginia Capitol on Wednesday were grinning “ear” to “ear.” Make that chomping from ear to ear.
The state Department of Agriculture hosted a corn roast on the state Capitol grounds. About 25 dozen ears of sweet corn were thrown on an open grill, and the corn was offered free to visitors at the Capitol.
The Commissioner of Agriculture in West Virginia, Walt Helmick, said it's important to promote the state's crops. "We want to expand upon the plowed to plate concept and take West Virginia's agriculture to another level", said Helmick.
The event was conducted from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. This marks the fifth year the agency hosted the corn roast.
