South Charleston , Kanawha County , West Virginia
A West Virginia native who has performed on Broadway, worked in Los Angeles and traveled the country performing has returned home for a special show.
Derek Keeling, a native of Putnam County, first began singing when he was a young child and his dreams of performing skyrocketed when he starred on the TV special "Grease - You're the One That I Want," which led him to star in Broadway's recent "Grease Revival," "A Tale of Two Cities" and most recently as Johnny Cash in the Broadway tour of "Million Dollar Quartet."
Now Keeling has returned to his home state to pay tribute to life and music of legendary performer Johnny Cash.
Keeling and his band will perform Cash's best works from gospel selections to his final Grammy award winning performances. The concert will take place at the LaBelle Theater in South Charleston beginning at 7 p.m. Saturday.
A portion of the proceeds will benefit Hospice Care of West Virginia.
Keeling said in a news release that many West Virginians have traveled to New York City to see him perform and he is "proud to finally bring a show back home."
His new album "Long Road Home" also will be available for purchase that night.
General admission tickets are $35 and can be purchased by calling (304) 356-1654 or by emailing DKTheatrical@gmail.com. To learn more about Keeling, visit his website.
