The United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) announced Monday that West Virginia University Tech will be the host of the 2013 and 2014 USCAA Men's and Women's Soccer National Championships.
The championships will take place Oct. 30 through Nov. 2 at the Trace Fork Soccer Complex in South Charleston and Schoenbaum Soccer Stadium at Coonskin Park.
"We have excellent support from the local Convention and Visitors Bureau, great downtown hotels and excellent soccer facilities," said WVU Tech Athletic Director Frank Pergolizzi. "The opportunities Charleston has to offer will help us increase our involvement in the USCAA."
The Charleston Convention and Visitors Bureau has estimated the tournament will have between a $400,000 to $500,000 economic impact on the city of Charleston.
Past championships were hosted by Warren Wilson College in Asheville, N.C., in 2011 and 2012.
"WVU Tech is very excited about its membership with the USCAA," Pergolizzi said. "Hosting the soccer tournament is an excellent way for us to be full and active members of the USCAA. The city of Charleston is a strong soccer community with excellent facilities. We felt that we could do an excellent job and offer all of the participating teams an outstanding experience."
Both the men's and women's tournaments feature 10-team, consolidation brackets, according to a news release. Each team is guaranteed at least two games with a first-round bye for six teams in each bracket.
WVU Tech alumni who are interested in volunteering may contact Tara Hines at 304-442-3131 or Tech-Alumni@mail.wvu.edu.
