Two people were arrested Friday for allegedly robbing a Charleston bar in broad daylight, and police are now saying it was an inside job.
In a strange case full of twists and turns, police first thought they were looking for a masked robber who held up an unsuspecting cashier at gunpoint, but they later learned that was far from the truth.
A robbery in broad daylight at Barney's Sports Grill in Charleston had people living in the area on edge, fearing for their safety.
But as it turns out, police said the robbery was staged and a toy gun was used .
Police caught up with the duo accused of the crime, Ingrid Taylor and Dustin Crouch, Friday night.
Police said Taylor was working behind the cash register when her boyfriend's son, Crouch, came in with the toy gun, demanding money.
“The clerk complied, and then he fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of money," Lt. Steve Cooper, of Charleston police, said.
Police said the motive behind the crime was money, and that the couple planned to split the more than $1,500 they got away with.
But until it was clear the whole thing was an inside job, police spent much of the day combing the area, looking for what they thought to be a masked gunman.
People living in this area say they were scared.
"I walk the dogs down here every day and this is a bit unnerving, I must admit," Alex James of Charleston said.
While people in this area may not have been in any danger after all, they said the incident makes them rethink their safety.
Taylor and Crouch were both charged with grand larceny, and taken to the South Central Regional Jail with a $50,000 bond.
Charleston detectives were reviewing video surveillance, and a suspect was still being sought in the armed robbery of a sports bar in Charleston.
The robbery occurred Friday at Barney's Sports Bar in Charleston about 10:30 a.m. Friday, a 911 dispatcher said.
The bar is located on Bigley Avenue.
