A portion of westbound Interstate 64 in Charleston that was closed due to repairs earlier Thursday, was set to reopen to traffic about 5 p.m.
The closure affected traffic traveling between the Virginia Street entrance ramp and the Oakwood exit ramp, dispatchers said. The closure was announced about 12 p.m. Thursday.
Department of Highways crews spent the day making what dispatchers referred to as "emergency" repairs on the closed section of the interstate. Details of the repairs were not immediately released.
The roadway will be closed again at 8 p.m. for Department of Highways to complete the repairs. Motorists are advised to avoid the area or use caution if traveling along that section of interstate.
A portion of I-64 in Charleston was closed repairs to the roadway Thursday.
The closure was between the Virginia Street entrance ramp and the Oakwood exit ramp on the bridge, according to an alert from Metro 911.
Department of Highways crews were working to make repairs at about 11:45 a.m.
Motorists are asked to use an alternate route until the repairs are complete. It's unclear how long that portion of the interstate will be closed. Keep checking wchstv.com for updates.
