A man was arrested after Charleston police said he yelled obscenities at a woman and threw a cup of soda in her face while she was waiting in a vehicle at a Kanawha City school, trying to pick up her children.
Rodney A. Keene, 42, is charged with one count of battery after an incident at Chamberlain Elementary on Tuesday, according to a news release from the Charleston Police Department.
As the parent was waiting in her vehicle, she noticed Keene motioning her to move, police said. The parent was unable to move her vehicle due to the line of cars waiting to pick up students at the school. Police said Keene then walked over to the parent’s vehicle and asked her to roll down her window. Once the parent rolled the window down, Keene threw a cup of soda in her face and began screaming obscenities, the release said. Keene then left the area and the parent was able to flag down an officer.
Chamberlain Elementary, located in the 4800 block of Venable Avenue, was put on lockdown for a short period of time Wednesday as police served a warrant on Keene. Police said Keene lives near the school, and school officials and the police department wanted to take precautionary measures while serving the warrant.
Police said school officials and parents have reported there have been several complaints regarding Keene harassing or threatening parents as they pick up their children from school.
Police are continuing the investigation and more charges could be pending.
