The U.S. Attorney’s Office has filed a motion for a guilty plea hearing for William Jamey Thompson in connection with an arson scheme in Logan.
It was unclear when the hearing will be held or to which charges he will plead to during the hearing. Thompson is charged with conspiracy to commit arson, conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud.
The motion was filed Sept. 13.
Three other men, James Gregory Glick, Guy R. Miller and Shawn C. Simon, face the same charges as part of a 36-count indictment. Glick, 44, of Logan also is charged with obstruction of justice, unlawful monetary transactions and structuring in connection with the case.
During the alleged scheme, Glick allegedly paid Thompson, 44, an independent insurance agent from Chapmanville, about $75,000 to obtain a fraudulently inflated $1 million insurance policy from General Star Indemnity Company, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
The indictment alleges that Miller, 39, of Logan and Simon, 41, of Charleston and another man worked together on Feb. 1, 2012, to set the fire. Miller, Simon and another person allegedly set the fire by spreading gasoline throughout the main floor, the release said.
Thompson was charged with submitting a false and fraudulent property loss insurance claim on behalf of Glick to General Star, allowing Glick to collect more than $1 million in insurance proceeds, the indictment said.
