Local law enforcement had the opportunity to hone their shooting skills Saturday.
As the officers fired off rounds, it was only practice, but that doesn't mean it was not serious at the Cabell County Sheriff’s Cup competition.
Cabell County Sheriff Tom McComas hosts the event every year. The competition brings different divisions of law enforcement together.
"It allows them to be in a fun environment to have their skills put to the test," he said.
They feel pressure, but it helps them fire their weapon effectively.
Officers from nine different departments competed in a series of five different courses of fire using their “on duty” weapon.
"It builds the relationships between the departments," Lt. W.W. Adkins, of Barboursville police, said. "We work together. This is fun. It allows us to relax together."
While fun, Adkins said the competition is fierce, with a lot of trash talk.
All jokes aside, Saturday was about building camaraderie between different divisions of law enforcement, while perfecting skills used to protect and serve.
