A man was arrested Thursday after witnesses described the scene of a possible abduction.
Kanawha County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a call of a man pulling a gun on his wife and child, but, after the arrest, the wife said it was a big misunderstanding.
“They're tearing our family apart,” Katie Fields, the alleged victim, said. “That's my husband and my son's daddy."
Katie Fields was in tears and still trying to understand why her husband was arrested.
Police said Terry Fields, 27, got into an argument with his wife Katie, after they stopped in a lot along Kanawha State Forest Drive.
Witnesses told police at the height of the argument, Terry Fields pulled out a gun and pointed it at his wife.
“I didn't have a gun,” he said. “I had my phone in my back pocket. I took it out to get back in the car and leave."
Katie Fields said the argument with her husband started after their one-year-old son started to get sick in the car.
Witnesses told police she was at gunpoint when Terry Fields entered the car and drove off.
She said they were just going home, which is where police eventually found the couple and arrested Terry Fields.
“Due to the fact that witnesses observed the incident and him pointing the gun at the female, with the infant in the car, we have an obligation to make an arrest and charge him with what we've charged him with," Det. Sean Snuffer, of the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office, said.
Police said more charges could follow as the investigation continues, but, for now, the charges are brandishing a dangerous weapon, domestic assault and battery.
Terry Fields is being held at the South Central Regional jail with a $25,000 bond.
