Heavy rains moved through the Eyewitness News viewing area Thursday.
As the storm made its way through Huntington, left little damage, but dispatchers said a few trees had fallen and a few power lines are down.
One homeowner at the 1400 block of 15th Street is fortunate that a tree didn't topple onto his home. It snapped power lines and landed on a detached garage. No one was reported injured.
Heavy rain and lightning were expected Thursday afternoon in Kanawha County, and storms already were rolling through some areas in the Eyewitness News viewing area.
Eyewitness News Meteorologist Brandon Stover said Ripley, Ravenswood and the Huntington areas were already seeing some storms. Stover said storms could roll through Kanawha County between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. Thursday between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. and could last an hour or two. The National Weather Service said there is a severe thunderstorm warning in Kanawha County until 4 p.m.
Winds of 40 mph to 50 mph could be possible in higher elevations, Stover said.
There were no current watches or warnings in effect. There was a special weather statement alert from the National Weather Service for five counties in West Virginia -- Cabell, Mason, Putnam, Jackson and Roane counties. In Ohio, the weather statement was in effect for Gallia, Meigs and Lawrence counties.
