The FBI said a serial bank robbery suspect known as the "I-55 Bandit," who is believed to have hit a Putnam County bank during his spree, has turned himself in to authorities.
Andrew Maberry, 19, of O'Fallon, Ill. surrendered to the St. Louis FBI Field Office after the bureau launched a public campaign to find him. Investigators said Maberry turned himself in less than 24 hours after the FBI asked for the public's help.
Maberry was charged with one count of bank robbery in connection to a robbery at a bank in Missouri. The FBI believes the suspect could be connected to at least 10 bank robberies and two additional attempted robberies in five states including Illinois, Missouri, Maryland, West Virginia and Tennessee. Maberry is suspected of robbing the Huntington Bank on Great Teays Boulevard in Teays Valley on July 30.
The suspected was dubbed the "I-55 Bandit" because a number of banks in Illinois that were robbed were along Interstate 55.
