A Charleston man was arrested after police said he threw a gun out of his vehicle and fake crack cocaine was found in his pocket.
Diarra Jermaine Boddy, 42, was charged Tuesday with possession with intent to deliver a counterfeit substance, according to a criminal complaint filed in Kanawha County Magistrate Court.
A city police officer said he saw a car traveling fast on Kanawha Boulevard East, and he started to follow the vehicle. The car turned left on Veazey Street, and he saw the driver open the door and throw what appeared to be a gun out of the window, the complaint said. Police said the vehicle stopped about 200 feet later, and Boddy attempted to walk away. The officer said he used a Taser on him after Boddy refused to stop, and he handcuffed the suspect.
Police said they found a plastic bag in Boddy’s pocket that appeared to be crack cocaine, but it later field tested negative. The complaint said the gun that was thrown from the car, a .44 Magnum revolver, was located.
The complaint said Boddy’s driver’s license was revoked for driving under the influence. Police also discovered that he was not allowed to have a firearm because of several felony convictions for drugs and domestic battery.
