If you normally go to the Daily Mail Kanawha County Majorette and Band Festival, you are going to see a subtle change this year.
The organizers have decided to change to an Olympic format, with the top winners in each category receiving gold, silver and bronze medals instead of "places."
Just like last year, this season bands will draw straws for playing order.
But there will be some things that will stay the same. There still will be a “grand champion” band and the crowning of Miss Majorette. The Pride of West Virginia, West Virginia University’s marching band, also will perform as it has in past years.
The event steps off at Laidley Field at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 24.
