A colonel with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Huntington District has been relieved of his command amid an investigation into allegations of misconduct.
Col. Steven McGugan was relieved of his command last week, according to Army spokesman Col. David Patterson.
The specifics of the allegations were not released. Patterson did confirm that McGugan was temporarily reassigned to headquarters in Washington D.C.
Lt. Col. William Reding will serve as commander of the district while the investigation is being conducted.
The Huntington district has more than 830 employees. The district operates and maintains 35 multi-purpose reservoirs and nine locks and dams. The district covers 45,000 square miles in five states: West Virginia, Kentucky, Ohio, Virginia and North Carolina.
