A former Kanawha County school employee has been charged with grand larceny.
Gary Lee Cochran, who worked as a child nutrition director for the school system until he resigned in February 2012, was arrested Monday, according to a news release from the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office.
The sheriff’s office said when Cochran’s desk at the school system was cleared, pawn tickets were located for two computers that had been assigned to Cochran. The Board of Education sent letters to Cochran asking him to return the issued property months before, and prior to locating the pawn tickets, the release said.
A warrant for grand larceny was obtained for the pawned items, worth more than $1,500. Deputies tried to serve the warrants several times, but Cochran was not located at his known addresses. Using a tip provided through WCHS TV’s Fugitive Files program and other sources of information, Kanawha County deputies and members of the U.S. Marshal’s CUFFED Task Force went to an address Monday on Mason Street in Milton.
Cochran was arrested, arraigned at Cabell County Magistrate Court and transported to Kanawha County for booking and housing at the South Central Regional Jail.
Bond was set at $10,000 property or 10 percent cash.
