A woman was killed and a man was injured in a rollover accident on Interstate 79 in Braxton County that shut down the northbound lanes for a period between Gassaway and Flatwoods.
The accident happened about noon when a southbound car lost control, entered the median, rolled three times and ended up in the northbound lanes, Braxton County Deputy David Doak said. Both occupants of the vehicle were ejected. A woman died in the wreck, and a man was transported to Braxton Memorial Hospital, where he was being treated for serious injuries. The deputy said the man was expected to be transported to Charleston by helicopter.
The names of the woman and the man have not been released. The deputy said they were from the Summersville area.
Doak said the cause of the accident remains under investigation, but it appears that speed was a factor. He does not believe they were wearing seat belts.
