Businesses are alert in Charleston after a weekend stabbing that sent a man to the hospital.
Charleston police said this isn't the first time they've responded to Sky Lounge on Capitol Street. In September 2012, three people were shot outside of the club following a fight. On Saturday, Sebastian Williams, 26, was stabbed as he was trying to leave the bar. Police said a fight broke out and he was knocked to the ground as he was attempting to leave. When he stood up, he realized he had been stabbed. He's since been released from the hospital.
It's another violent incident involving a bar or nightclub in downtown Charleston. Impulse closed earlier this year after a stabbing and several other large fights. During one of those fights a nearby business was damaged.
Businesses along Capitol Street are taking note. The manager at Pies and Pints, Scott Perdue, said they're taking extra precautions to make sure they're staff stays safe. "We've always encouraged our employees to leave together at night," he said. "Particularly with the parking so spread out in the area so we encourage people to leave in twos and threes walking each other to cars. Just for safety that way."
Despite the crime happening around his business, Perdue said they're actually thriving. They're even opening another store in Ohio. He credits that to people wanting to visit the downtown area and the fact that most of these incidents are isolated.
As for Saturday night's stabbing at Sky Lounge, Charleston police said they're working with the Alcohol Beverage Control Administration to review this incident to see if they're any violations.
