Sissonville , Kanawha County , West Virginia
A high speed chase spanning two counties ended with a man in custody and a deputy in the hospital.
The Kanawha County Sheriff's Office said it all started about 12 a.m. Friday when deputies attempted to make a traffic stop on the 6300 block on Sissonville Drive for defective equipment.
Deputies said that is when the car driven by Jared Garnes, 26, turned up Martin's Branch and took off.
Deputies said Garnes sped through the Sissonville area and into Putnam County. They activated a spike strip, and the car eventually came to a stop on Bowles Ridge near the Putnam, Jackson County line.
Garnes was arrested and charged with felony fleeing and driving under the influence.
Deputies said the whole incident lasted about an hour.
During the pursuit, a Putnam County sheriff's deputy crashed his cruiser. Putnam County Sheriff Steve Deweese identified the deputy as Tyson Mitchell. Mitchell was taken to the hospital with a minor injury to his hand and was treated and released. While pursuing the suspect, Mitchell rolled his cruiser and the vehicle landed in a creek, Deweese said.
The Kanawha County Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Putnam County Sheriff's Department and Jackson County Sheriff's Department.
