One of the four airmen who survived the B-1B bomber crash in Montana is from the Tri-State area.
Capt. Brandon Packard of Ashland was one of the four who survived the crash on Monday. The Boyd County native is an instructor weapons systems operator from the Ellsworth Air Force Base in South Dakota.
Investigators are still trying to determine the cause of Monday's crash near Broadus, Mont., about 170 miles southeast of Billings, Mont. Local ranchers said the plane broke apart in midair.
Instructor pilot Maj. Frank Biancardi ll, of Methuen, Mass., instructor pilot Capt. Curtis Michael, of Albion, Neb., and instructor weapons systems officer Capt. Chad Nishizuka, of Kailua, Hawaii, also survived the crash. The four men ejected from the plane.
