A state group is trying to bring the issue of crimes against West Virginia kids to light.
Members of the select committee on Crimes Against Children met at the state Capitol Wednesday to discuss the problem.
Statistics show 84 percent of children sexually assaulted in 2010 were girls, with more than half of all victims being juveniles. Statistics also show 94 percent of sexual assault offenders were male.
The Crimes Against Children unit is a division of the West Virginia State Police.
