Arguments over the identity of a gunman caught on video in a double shooting made for a heated debate in a Kanawha County courtroom Tuesday.
The shooting incident happened on Charleston's West Side. Jon Clements and Robert Smith, both pleaded not guilty Tuesday to attempted murder, malicious wounding, wanton endangerment and conspiracy.
The two are charged in an attack on Andre Williamson that wounded him and a woman. Sixty-five shots were fired during the incident, police said.
Clements' lawyer said Williamson can only identify Smith and that it's not Clements on security video. The prosecutor in the case disagreed.
"Mr. Clements is caught on video surveillance standing the middle of the street shooting and his face looks like it's looking right into the camera," Assistant Prosecutor Don Morris said.
A jury may decide soon. Both demanded a speedy trial. It was set for later this month. Clements and Smith remain in jail, unable to post the $100,000 cash-only bond that the judge set.
Detectives said the shooting may have been in retaliation for the murder of David Booker.
