A well-known race car driver issued an apology on Facebook a day after he was arrested on a drunken driving charge in Charleston,
Bobby Dale Earnhardt was arrested late Monday on the capital city's West Side after police said he was driving erratically. Police said Earnhardt later admitted to officers that he took two shots at a West Side bar.
On Tuesday afternoon, Earnhardt posted the following on his Facebook page,"I wanted to let you all know I made a terrible mistake last night drinking and driving and I am thankful nothing bad happened from my stupidity, and I know It could have. I'm sorry for letting all my fans, friends and family down, and I hope I can make it up to each and everyone of you and in the future be a good role model. I will continue to move forward with my racing career, and I hope I continue to have your support thanks."
Police said his blood alcohol level was 0.193. The legal limit in West Virginia is 0.08. He was released from jail Tuesday morning.
In another post on his Facebook page, Earnhardt said he planned to keep his prior commitment to visit with the veterans at the VA Medical Center in Beckley Tuesday afternoon.
Earnhardt is the grandson of the late Dale Earnhardt.
