First, it was allergy medicine. Now it's nail polish remover that is becoming harder to buy.
CVS drugstores across the nation are cracking down on nail polish remover purchases. People 18 and older will now need to show identification to buy the beauty item at the major chain.
The policy was put into place to help crack down on methamphetamine. Acetone is an ingredient used to make meth and nail polish remover. CVS customers also will have to show identification to purchase items that contain iodine.
The chain plans to limit the amount of nail polish remover a customer can buy in conjunction with other products used to make meth, such as allergy medicines, which contain pseudoephedrine.
Becky Ballard, a consumer and concerned parent, said the new policy would not deter her from shopping at CVS for the beauty item.
"As bad as the meth problem seems to be in our area, I have no problem with it (new policy)," Ballard said.
Currently, there are no state or federal laws in place restricting the sales of products containing iodine or acetone.
