Almost 500 people in Proctorville were helping to raise money Friday for a neighbor in need.
John Paul Kelley was injured in a friend's swimming pool this summer and was paralyzed.
Kelley, his wife and his infant daughter are staying in Georgia while he undergoes rehab.
Medical bills are piling up and a 5K fundraiser was held to help the family.
"Absolutely everyone has done everything they could,” organizer Ashley Floyd said.
“The police deparment has helped, the mayor - everyone has wanted to help, because everyone knows John Paul and everyone knows he would do anything he could to help anyone out."
It's estimated the run raised more than $20,000.
Hundreds of people in Proctorville are expected to "Light up the Night" Friday evening.
The fundraising 5K is for John Paul Kelley, who was injured in a friend's swimming pool this summer and was paralyzed. Kelley, his wife and his infant daughter are staying in Georgia while he undergoes rehab. Friends said he is responding well and is regaining movement in his hands and wrists, but his medical bills are piling up.
Runners will have glow sticks as they weave through the streets of Proctorville to show their support for the family.
"It's really blown all of us out of the water,” organizer Ashley Floyd said. “I just can't believe how many people are interested in helping this project."
The run starts at 8:30 p.m. at the Kroger parking lot.
