South Charleston , Kanawha County , West Virginia
South Charleston police executed a search warrant at an apartment at Southmoor Hills Friday evening.
Police said they found three guns, one of which they believed was used in Thursday night's shooting incident.
Police said they have three people detained right now and an arrest is expected soon.
A man possibly armed with an AK-47 fired shots during an robbery near a high school Thursday night.
South Charleston High School students were preparing for their first day back to school.
Safety is not something principal Michael Arbogast takes lightly.
"I do not want a parent to be sitting at home or sitting at work wondering, 'is my kid safe at school today?' If they attend South Charleston High School, they are as safe here as they would be anywhere," he said.
When Arbogast got word there was a shooter at large near his school, he knew there would be some concern. With the area on lock down the night before the first day, he had some tough decisions to make.
"I don't think the school was even in any threat, or danger, or I'd have taken different steps," he said.
Police combed the area, just a stone's throw away from the high school before calling off the search for the shooter. Police said he robbed a man at the Southmoor Hills apartment complex, firing shots even after police arrived on scene.
"Of course, last night whenever it happened, we were all kind of tweeting about it and people were like, 'oh, there's not going to school tomorrow,' but of course, there was," student Logan Shomo said.
"We pride ourselves on keeping the school safe everyday. Not just because something happened last night," Lt. Stan Miller said.
School officials said it was business as usual at the school on Friday, and parents should not be concerned.
"It's unfortunate that it happened, I thought people would be concerned but, you know, school goes on, and it's fine," teacher Linda Biron said.
Police said they don't have an accurate description of the suspect. If you have any information, call 911.
