Huntington , Cabell County , West Virginia
The crackdown on drugs continues in Huntington, with another success for the Violent Crime Drug Task Force.
Neighbors said the bust had them sleeping a little easier Friday night.
"I was just telling someone the other day that I felt very confident in the neighborhood, with the exception of that one building,” a neighbor said.
David Walker of Detroit, is facing drug charges, after police said they raided his apartment on 15th Street and found 44 bags of heroin, several fire arms, more than $38,000 in cash and several cell phones.
With the Byrd Clinical Center next door to where the bust went down, neighbors said making the area safe has to be a priority.
"We have a lot of people walking back and forth to Cabell,” neighbor Lisa Cornwell said. “There are people here who are getting things done and we need more safety.”
Cornwell has lived in the area for almost seven years.
"I'm not happy about this,” she said. “I’m hoping that gets us some more patrolling, since we have so many med students on the street."
Police said they are continuing to investigate.
Walker was taken to the Western Regional Jail on $2000,000 bond.
The Huntington Violent Crime Drug Task Force arrested a man for possession of heroin this week.
David Walker, 35, of Huntington and originally from Detroit was arrested for possession with intent to deliver and conspiracy.
Members of the task force executed a search warrant in the 1300 block of 15th street in Huntington Thursday. That's where they discovered 44 individually-packaged baggies of heron which weighed 28 grams, according to a criminal complaint.
They also found about $38,500 in cash, cell phones, and several guns inside the apartment.
Walker's bond was set at $200,000 cash-only.
