Huntington , Cabell County , West Virginia
It was a merging of the middle schools this week in Cabell County, as students got back in the classroom.
"We are no longer Beverly Hills and Enslow. We are Huntington East Middle School," principal Frank Barnett said.
No longer Pirates or Bulldogs, the students are now the Huntington East Middle Bears.
They won't move into the new building for a few months, but the consolidation of students and schools is happening now.
"It's really important for us to set that culture for the students that this is going to be their family, and that's the way we want to move as a unit when we move, as one family moving in to another house," Barnett said.
Sixth graders are at the former Enslow Middle School, known as the Highlawn campus, and seventh and eighth graders are at the old Beverly Hills Middle.
"It will be a rough few days to get all the kinks lined out," Barnett said.
Parent Stephanie Howell said her kids are excited about the new theme. She has a seventh and eighth grader at the school, who were in this building last year. She said they will try to be role models to the former Enslow students.
"We did talk to the kids and say you know there's going to be a lot o new kids," she said. "Be sure to help them if they look lost and they're new they're scared they're not familiar with the new school so be sure and help them out."
It will be a learning curve for not only the students, but everyone involved.
"I think it will soon operate like a well-oiled machine," Barnett said.
The move into the new building should be in December, with students starting there in January.
