A local police department is cleaning house for a good cause.
The St. Albans Police Department had a number of abandoned bikes and bikes used for evidence on hand, but not much room to store them. So the department decided to donate the bikes to Habitat for Humanity ReStore, a charitable organization. The Charleston nonprofit organization received 19 bikes from St. Albans police Thursday morning.
ReStore plans to sell the bikes and use the money to fund the building of Habitat homes. Donation coordinator Courtney Crabtree said it's a win-win situation for all involved and she is grateful for the donation.
"We can't do anything without our donors here at Habitat for Humanity ReStore," Crabtree said. "Without them, we wouldn't have anything in our store or we wouldn't be able to help build more homes. So we thank them immensely for these donations. We thank them and all of our donors for their donations."
ReStore hopes to make $1,000 from the donated bikes. This is the second time the St. Albans Police Department has donated bikes to the nonprofit organization.
