A former Charleston mayor has died.
Joe Smith died on Friday at the age of 94.
Smith served as mayor of the capital city from 1980 to 1983 and spearheaded the final push to finance the Charleston Town Center.
He also served on city council for eight years and served as city treasurer.
The World War II veteran was also a member of the House of Delegates during the 1990s.
