Pax, Fayette County , West Virginia
A longtime miner killed in one of West Virginia’s worst mine disasters was honored over the weekend.
Rex Mullins, 50, was killed in the Upper Big Branch mine explosion in 2010, along with 28 other miners.
A Fayette County bridge, spanning W.Va. Route 23 in Pax, where Mullins was a lifelong resident, was renamed in his memory.
Mullins spent 30 years working in coal mines. He was also a grade school basketball coach and active in the local community.
