Two recently-released polls offered differing results on the contest for Kentucky’s U.S. Senate seat in 2014.
A poll, released Thursday by Public Policy Polling, showed Democratic challenger Alison Lundergan Grimes slightly ahead of Republican incumbent U.S. Mitch McConnell, 45-44 percent, with 11 percent undecided.
The survey by the Democratic-leaning firm was conducted from July 19-21 for the Progressive Change Campaign Committee and Democracy For America.
A poll released July 25 by the Republican-leaning Wenzel Strategies gave McConnell an 8-point lead, and had the Senate minority leader ahead of Grimes, 49 to 40 percent. The survey was conducted from July 23-24.
Grimes, who was elected as Kentucky’s secretary of state in 2011, launched her campaign on Tuesday. McConnell was first elected to the U.S. Senate in 1984 and is running for his sixth term.
