The backpacks are ready, but they need to be filled with school supplies to help area children heading back to class.
Catholic Charities purchased 400 to 500 backpacks for the "Tools For School" drive, an effort that will benefit students from grade school up to high school in Kanawha, Cabell and Boone counties. Eyewitness News is spearheading the campaign, sponsored by Catholic Charities and Ford.
The backpacks, filling about 15 boxes, were dropped off Tuesday at the station's Charleston studio. School supplies are starting to come in, but a variety of school supplies are still needed. Items will be accepted through Aug. 16 at at our studios in Charleston, 1301 Piedmont Road, and in Huntington, 1002 Fourth Ave.
Help children as they begin their school year.
Children will soon be heading back to the classroom, and Eyewitness News wants to make sure that all kids have the school supplies they need.
Our “Tools for School” drive kicks off Monday and runs through Aug. 16. Students from grade school up to high school age in Kanawha, Cabell and Boone counties will benefit from the campaign, sponsored by Ford and Catholic Charities of Charleston.
The station will be collecting a variety of school supplies such as backpacks, pens, pencils, notebook paper, notebooks and crayons. Collected items will be turned over to the school systems for distribution. Parents should check with their local school system if their kids need supplies.
Donations may be dropped off during business hours Monday through Friday at our studios in Charleston, 1301 Piedmont Road, and in Huntington, 1002 Fourth Ave.
Please consider making a donation to this worthy cause, so all local kids have a chance to get off to a great start this year.
