Logan , Logan County , West Virginia
The West Virginia Division of Highways has come up with a plan to help emergency services respond to calls on state Route 10 while it is closed.
After a community meeting Tuesday in Man in Logan County, it was made clear there is a need for providing a faster response time for emergency crews while Route 10 is closed between Dabney and Man, according to a news release from the DOH. The meeting was packed with angry residents who are upset about the delays caused by the detours, and they said some of the travel is hazardous.
Starting Monday, a law enforcement vehicle will be placed at each end of the work site on Route10. The Logan County Sheriff's Department, Man Police Department and Chapmanville Police Department will help provide the police presence. The Logan County 911 Center will contact these agencies to open a portion of the roadway only if a medical helicopter is unable to fly.
The construction company on site, Bizzack Construction, LLC, will place an additional endloader at the site to help clear the roadway more rapidly if an emergency vehicle needs to get through, but only when the work site is deemed safe.
Crews haven't said when work on Route 10 will be finished but have said it could take several months.
Meanwhile, County Routes 14 and 16 are being used as detours and are getting some upgrades. Paving got under way on Thursday and will continue the next few days. An additional 68 roadway signs are going up to better showcase the detour route, to urge drivers to slow down, to warn them of curves and to give them advance notice of one-lane bridges. New guardrails also are being installed.
