A man in St. Albans is using a piece of history to make a trophy for a big rivalry.
Mark Turley is using a beam from the former Nitro/St. Albans bridge as the centerpiece of a trophy that will go to the winner of the annual game between St. Albans and Nitro, a game known as the Battle of the Bridge.
Turley got the idea when he found out the bridge was going to be demolished.
"It's truly unique,” he said. “It’s one of a kind, and I think the trophy will last for many, many years. I don't think you’re gonna tear this trophy up."
Turley isn't finished with the trophy. He has put about $2,000 into it and is trying to come up with the money to finish it.
Those who would like to donate to help Turley can visit City National Bank and ask for the Battle of the Bridge Trophy account.
Turley hopes to have the trophy done by August.
The Nitro /St. Albans game is set for Sept. 27.
