The West Virginia Lottery is extending an agreement with Scientific Games International to maintain the controls of all video lottery machines in the state.
Director John Musgrave announced Thursday that the agreement with Scientific Games International will allow the central computer system that controls all video lottery machines in West Virginia to remain in operation through Jan. 31, 2018.
The system currently controls and regulates about 16,000 machines in the state's casinos and taverns. It has been in place since 2006, and the current contract was set to expire in 2016.
Musgrave said the agreement will maximize the lifespan of the system. He says it also will ultimately save both the state, game operators and retailers from the very costly process of making a system change at an earlier date.
