Huntington , Cabell County , West Virginia
A meeting in Huntington Thursday focused on finding a way to feed West Virginia's starving population.
The newly formed West Virginia Food Policy Council met to tackle the hunger issue in the Mountain State.
The group is comprised of several different food banks, farmer's markets, and similar organizations throughout the area.
The group said they hope to find some long-term solutions with some legislative backing.
"A lot of us take for granted our meals every day,” Gaylene Miller, of AARP West Virginia, said. “We know about 20 percent of West Virginians are what they call food insecure and they skip about two meals a day. They may only get one meal a day."
The group is hoping to have a policy symposium in Charleston in September.
