Following several complaints from neighbors, authorities are investigating a set of what appear to be starving horses in St. Albans.
The horses are on a patch of land along Poplar Lane in the Green Valley area.
In photos obtained by Eyewitness News, the horses’ ribs are showing and they do have sores.
Animal control officers checked on the horses on Monday and gave the owners 24 hours to respond. A veterinarian also will be checking out the horses later this week.
Several people have started feeding the horses, but animal experts with the humane society are urging people not to give them rich foods because they are so emaciated. If they overeat, the rich food can actually kill them. For now, hay is the best thing to help them gain weight.
