You can be a kid at heart and sign up for the Charleston Distance Run. In fact, you can be a kid in the fun run.
The Charleston Distance Run Fun Run for Kids is scheduled 6:30 p.m. Aug. 30 on Clendenin Street in front of the Charleston Town Center. Children ages 4 to 12 can participate, and the event is free.
Advance registration forms are available here
Registration is also available on the day of the fun run from 4:30 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. in the lobby of the Charleston Civic Center. Charleston Parks and Recreation and the Tallman Track Club sponsor the event
Three races are offered in the Children’s Fun Run, with separate runs for age groups 4-6, 7-9 and 10-12. Kids in age group 4-6 run about a quarter of a mile while kids in age groups 7-9 and 10-12 run about a half-mile. Finisher’s medals are presented to all participants. Photos will be taken during the fun run and will be available for sale. Check at race day registration for details.
Race organizers for the CDR try to offer something for everyone in the family. Family members picking up race packets at the Civic Center the evening of Aug. 30 for the next day’s events can watch their kids participate in the fun run.
For the older folks who want to participate in the CDR, the 41st edition of America’s 15-miler is scheduled to begin 7:30 a.m. Aug. 31 at the West Virginia Capitol on Kanawha Boulevard. Participants can choose between a 15-mile run; three person 15-mile relay; 5K run; and noncompetitive 5K and 10K walks. Registration and more details are available at this site.
