State Police said a Michigan man faces multiple charges when meth-making materials were discovered in a vehicle during a traffic stop.
Shawn Ray Willis, 38, of White Lakes was charged with attempting to operate a clandestine laboratory, possession of pseudophedrine in an altered state, purchase of pseudoephedrine for the purpose of manufacturing methamphetamine and conspiracy to commit a felony, according to a criminal complaint filed in Kanawha County Magistrate Court.
The complaint said the trooper was on patrol on Interstate 77 southbound near the Haines Branch/Sissonville exit about 4:30 p.m. Sunday when he saw a Dodge truck veer into his lane, forcing the officer’s vehicle off the roadway into the media. The trooper pulled the car over and identified the driver as a male who also had a female passenger in the vehicle. The driver was not able to provide a driver’s license, vehicle registration or proof of insurance.
After searching the vehicle, the trooper said he found numerous hypodermic needles filled with clear and yellowish-tinted liquids the male said were meth. The officer also found materials consistent with a recent “shake and bake” meth cook, an electric grinder containing a white powdery substance believed to be pseudoephedrine and other drug paraphernalia.
The complaint said the officer also found that the driver, identified as Willis, had given a false name and had out-of-state warrants. Willis told police the meth lab and the materials were his and the woman with him had purchased the pseudoephedrine for him to manufacture meth and had been present during the process of cooking the material.
Willis and the woman were taken to Kanawha County Magistrate Court for arraignment.
