The mother of one of the victims in a deadly Roane County crash spoke out Friday.
Linda Dorsey said she wants this to be a lesson for others who may get behind the wheel drunk. She continues to pray as her son lies in the hospital.
Dorsey’s son, William Cottrell, 38, was seriously injured when a truck came crashing through the wall of the bedroom where he was sleeping. His girlfriend, Kelly Casto, 30, was killed in the wreck.
"It’s awful to see anyone like this,” Dosey said. “It’s a miracle he's alive. Thank God."
Deputies said Chaz Simmons, 23, was drunk and lost control of his truck.
Dorsey said her son is recovering, but is devastated as he was planning to marry Casto.
"He was going to be marry her,” she said. “He said he was the happiest he's ever been. He said the good Lord took his little angel from him. His heart's broken."
Cottrell also has a broken back, hips and bruised lungs.
As the family grieves, they're also thinking about the man accused.
"I feel sorry for the boy,” Dorsey said. “I know he's going to have to deal with this every day. He's going to have to live with it."
Dorsey said she is not angry, but wants this to be a lesson to others.
“I’d just like to see young teens who drink, drink at home,” she said. “Don’t get on the road and drive. You could kill yourself or someone else, like this tragedy."
