Live on the Levee in Charleston on Friday features an accomplished drummer as the headliner and the Boy Scouts Jazz Jamboree Band as the opening act.
Butch Miles, a veteran drummer who has played with such greats as Count Basie, Frank Sinatra and Sammy Davis Jr., is the headliner for the evening’s activities at Haddad Riverfront Park. A graduate of West Virginia State College, he is scheduled to take the stage at 7:45 p.m.
Meanwhile, the Boy Scouts Jazz Jamboree Band will get things started with a performance at 6:30 p.m. The National Jamboree Band traditionally includes Scouts, primarily between the ages of 16 and 21, from all over the United States, and has included Scouts from other countries.
The Jamboree Band is a part of the daily ceremonies program. These musicians will play at some of the flag ceremonies and will also perform concerts at many other locations around the Jamboree.
Live on the Levee is an outdoor concert series presented by the city of Charleston and is made possible by sponsorship and private donations.
Profits from a 50/50 raffle are drawn to help raise money for a group of charities supported by the event. This year’s charities are Covenant House, the Religious Coalition for Community Renewal, the YWCA of Charleston, the Roark-Sullivan Lifeway Center and Day mark.
